Everything about the Northwest is breathtakingly beautiful, and Lao Than is no exception. This poetic name is familiar to mountain climbing enthusiasts. Situated at an altitude of 2860 meters, Lao Than Peak is considered the “roof of Y Ty,” located in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. This place is an ideal destination, gifted by nature, for those who love trekking.
Lao Than is not a difficult mountain to conquer and is often regarded as the “beginner’s peak” for those new to the passion of trekking and cloud hunting.
18:00 Arrive at the departure point and board the bus to Lao Cai. We will travel to Sapa by bus. After about 45 to 50 minutes, we will arrive at Noi Bai Airport to pick up those who registered for this pickup point.
23:00 Arrive in Lao Cai, check into the hotel, and stay overnight.

07:30 Breakfast in Lao Cai. After breakfast, the group will have coffee and wait for the car to pick us up.
09:00 Board the car to the trekking starting point in Y Ty.
11:30 Lunch in Y Ty and prepare for the journey to conquer Lao Than Peak.
12:30 Start the hike. After approximately 4 hours of trekking, we will reach the mountain shelter as the sunset begins. We will store our belongings, do personal hygiene, and rest after the first day’s journey. While waiting for dinner time, we can help the porters cook or walk around the shelter area to enjoy the sunset.
18:30 Dinner, socializing, and sharing with group members, then freely enjoy the tranquil mountain atmosphere. Overnight in a windproof wooden shelter with blankets and insulated mats to keep warm.

04:30 Wake up early, have breakfast, and enjoy a cup of hot ginger tea or coffee.
05:30 Begin the final ascent to reach Lao Than Peak.
06:00 Reach Lao Than Peak, rest, take photos, and enjoy the mountain scenery.
08:30 Return to the campsite, pack personal belongings, and trek back to the starting point.
12:00 Lunch in Y Ty before boarding the car back to Lao Cai.
18:00 Arrive in Lao Cai. Enjoy a herbal bath in Lao Cai.
19:00 Dinner at a local restaurant.
22:00 Board the overnight bus back to Hanoi, arriving around 03:00 the next morning. End of the tour.

Discovery level tours (6/10): Most people can participate, and children from around 6 years old can join with their parents. Light physical preparation will enhance the comfort and ease of outdoor activities during the tour. The tour duration is typically 2 days. For trekking at this level, trekking time is around 2-3 hours per day on relatively easy terrain. Kayaking or SUP tours at this level involve paddling for 2-3 hours per day on large water surfaces or flowing streams, with ample time for photography stops and rest breaks.

3. Liability Waiver:
Customers purchasing Umove Adventure’s adventurous tours are fully aware of the “adventurous” nature, physical challenges, and inherent risks in the tour. Therefore, customers are required to read and sign a Liability Waiver before departure. Please read the contents of the Liability Waiver below carefully before registering to participate.
4. Trekking Route Notes:
This trek features diverse terrain and is not too treacherous, ranking among the top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam. Lao Than is often considered a “beginner’s peak” for those new to mountain climbing.
Umove Adventure recommends bringing a backpack around 10L and carrying no more than 2kg of essentials such as a wallet, phone, and drinking water. Your personal belongings, including clothes for changing at the shelter, daily drinking water, and food for meals on the mountain, will be carried by porters.
5. Sleeping on the Mountain:
We will sleep in a wooden shelter on the mountain on the second night. You will be provided with an air mattress or insulated mat, and a blanket or sleeping bag for sleeping.
6. Food & Water:
Dinners on the mountain will be hot meals prepared by the porter team. Breakfast will consist of fried rice, instant noodles, or crepes. Lunch is usually pre-prepared cold food.
Drinking water on the mountain will be sourced from streams, boiled to kill bacteria by the porter team. Participants should bring a water bottle to collect water for daily use.
At the overnight shelter, there will be hot tea and coffee available before and after each meal.
7. Safety & Health Advisory:
If you have heart disease or joint issues (knees, ankles, shoulders, etc.), consult a doctor before deciding to join the trip. Guides will carry basic first aid kits. If you have specific health concerns requiring medication, please bring your own medications.
In all cases, if you enter the water for swimming, you must wear a life jacket.
The best time to start your Lao Than Y Ty trekking journey is from October to April each year. During this period, the weather is ideal, with little rain, ensuring safe trekking conditions. From September to October, you can admire the golden terraced fields and the golden burnt grass forest. From November to February each year is perfect for cloud hunting and watching the sunrise.
This is a trek route with diverse and not too dangerous terrain among the 10 highest peaks in Vietnam. Lao Than is often considered the “entry” peak for those new to mountain climbing. You should refer to notes and instructions to prepare for a trip with difficulty level 6/10 here.
Yes, this is a joint tour, so you can join the tour alone. However, the minimum number of participants for the tour to depart is 6. If the minimum number is not met, Umove Adventure will notify you one week in advance so you can decide to reschedule or receive a refund.
You need to inform Umove Adventure of your dietary requirements when booking the tour. We will check if the destination can meet your needs and inform you accordingly. Generally, Umove Adventure offers vegetarian options depending on the tour location.
Umove Adventure does not organize tours specifically for pet owners. Bringing pets will depend on the consent of the other tour participants. If you wish to bring your pet, Umove Adventure will seek the opinions of the group, and you will be responsible for maintaining hygiene and ensuring the safety of your pet.
Pit toilets will be used during deep forest trips, with a concealed, private location arranged by the park rangers. At the wooden shelter where we stay overnight, there will be toilets and showers for your personal needs.
We will camp on the mountain where phone signal will not be available. You should arrange your personal work before starting the journey to conquer Lao Than Peak.
